How Personal?
I think the blog for Beamer Consulting and Design should have personality but not be personal. It should be an expression of who Dan and I are and how we think creatively and professionally. By blogging I hope to give our brand a personality and paint a picture of Beamer Consulting and Design as a company that is creative, inspired, resourceful, conscientious, and relaxed. We will do this by linking business philosophies to life philosophies. In short, I want the blog to emphasize how running a successful business is like creating a gratifying life and that both are all about creating great relationships.

I think your leading sentance sums it up perfectly: "have personality, but not personal". I like it. Although all businesses are different and what works for one business may not work for another, that is a good rule of thumb to go by. Personality is a must. No matter how dry or boring the subject may be (i.e. income taxes and immigration in my business), you need to liven it up with a little personality and humor. Getting too personal can definietly be a negative as well. Particularly if your ideas or views are not in parallel with the norm, you can lose potential (or existing) clients/customers.
ReplyDeleteThanks for the comment Manuel. I agree that humor is a great asset in a blog!
ReplyDeleteI think that being in the designing industry, adding personality to your posts is an asset that can highlight your creativity. But like you said, without being personal.

Creativity currently is in demand but that should be in a professional way and therefore a personal touch is acceptable only if it relates to the business in a way that everyone could think of it as their own experience after accepting the product.
ReplyDeleteWell put Becky,
ReplyDeleteYour posts do reflect the qualities you wish to convey.
Wishing you lots of success!
